TV

jaimiel09 on Jun 3rd 2008

I love watching TV. No matter how many people argue that TV just makes you stupid, I still love watching TV. I think mass media, especially TV has a great power over people. If I were to, I sure can defend TV. I love watching American reality show, American drama and most especially Korean variety shows.

This video is a popular Korean talk show called ?????. Although it seems dumb, the contents it holds are very interesting yet many times informational as well. A lot of times, I gain back my hopes and ambition after watching this show. This show is about having casual discussion with significant figures to deliver their life stories and wisdoms in fun ways. Often those life stories are very aspiring.

I really want to become a producer of Korean variety shows later on. However, it is a hard goal for me to reach. When I was chatting with my Korea friends, I realized how suck my Korean writing is. I haven’t written Korean writing since 4th grade. My Korean writing skill is stuck in 4th grade level. Also I don’t think my writing skill in English isn’t that good to become a TV show producer in the states. Hm… Anyways, I will worry about it later. For now, I just want to simply enjoy watching TV shows that I love.

Honesty

jaimiel09 on Jun 2nd 2008

haha

Mom: Please open your eyes!

Dad: It’s time for me to go. Please show me your happy face before I die.

Mom, Children: HAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

It is one of my many goals to stay honest all the time. I bet it isn’t a goal only for me but for many others, since we all get brainwashing-ly taught to live truthfully. Many people would have realized that staying truthful isn’t always the case. There are white lies, jokes and even emergency which we got to be dishonest.

Recently I’ve seen several people who are just so nice and weren’t true about themselves. They all are regretting.

Here comes a question. If they had stayed totally honest, would they not be regretting?

Of course, it truly depends on the situation.

Therefore, we can’t have an exact answer,

which people say is the beauty of life

Blog Discoveries

jaimiel09 on Jun 1st 2008

dogs.jpg

This is my first blog. I’m learning new stuffs and feeling amazed as I continue managing my blog. There are two majorblog discoveries I’ve found.

1. People don’t read long blogs. I found it interesting that there are 7 responses on one of my shortest blogs but there is no response on my longest blog. It’s good news for me because I don’t like writing (and reading) long blogs. Blog isn’t all about decent writing. Instead, it is a matter of combination of attention grabbing context and visual. I’m looking forward to the digital journalism class next year. (I didn’t sign up for that class, but got into it due to schedule conflicts. Although I didn’t plan to be in that class, I feel fortunate that my counselor put me into it. )

2. I was amazed looking at my clustrmap. Actually the dots are smaller than it seems (if you click the map, you’ll see), however they are from lots of different places. Maybe it was an accident for many of the readers to visit my blog, but still! I want to try a roll call! I would start! Hello, I’m Jaimie Lee from South Korea. Um….I have a feeling that no one would respond… Well, I’ll laugh it off.

At the Spot

jaimiel09 on May 21st 2008

explosive@spot

Our band, E.X.Plosive performed at the Global Cooling Project concert at Hong-Dae, ‘Spot’. I’m proud and thankful to all of our band members for putting tremendous efforts during AP exam weeks to put our performance together.

To be honest, I wasn’t so satisfied with our performance.

Many people complemented us for being original. However I wanted to show the audiences that we are good, not only original.

Due to many factors, such as the fire alarm rang during our performance and difficulty in sound controlling; we were unable to show our utmost performance.

Many of those factors were unavoidable, plus we should have learned to deal with those mistakes. Knowing that all of our band members put so much efforts into it, the performance leaves me some regrets.

This concert could have been a great opportunity to prove ourselves to those who doubted about our band, at the same time thank all of those who supported us regardless of anything by showing a praiseworthy performance.

I so wanted to show

The one who canceled our performance a day before,
The one who screamed at us for doing band practices during a final’s week,
The ones who were so concerned about letting us use the school practice room,
The ones who always view critically about our band ,

That we are a good band
And make them regret

I so wanted to show our thankfulness to

The one who openly accepted our request and became our supervisor,
The one who gave us the opportunity to perform,
The one who voluntarily became our special guest vocal singer,
Many of the people who gave us moral supports : )

By presenting a decent performance

I guess, we would have to wait for the next time

math

jaimiel09 on Apr 21st 2008

“If you fail the first time, consider yourself normal and try again.

If you fail a second time, consider yourself special, for you have what it takes to succeed

If you fail a third time, consider yourself extraordinary, for many people would have already given up

With determination, we can break through any wall that life puts before us. “

-Michelle C. Ustaszeski

In my sophomore year, i often screwed on math tests

i had no choice but to be stuck in math class, since

it is a mandatory class…

In my junior year, I’m continuing to

fall back in math class

It is so weird that

I used to not like math so much

but these days

I’m becoming to like math more than other subjects

even though my grades

clearly reflect my lack of math skills,

I just started to think about

what i should major in college,

and i’m confused

whether i should major in

something i enjoy

or something i’m relatively better at

for now, i want to just consider myself

extraordinary and challenge myself to

take Math II C SAT subject test

Abstract Emotion

jaimiel09 on Apr 19th 2008

“It is like when you are upset and you hold the radio against your ear and you tune it halfway between two stations so that all you get is white noise and then you turn the volume right up so that this is all you can hear and then you know you are safe because you cannot hear anything else.”

-Christopher from The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time

(mark haddon)

I’m reading The Curious Incident of the Dong in the Night

It has a very interesting character

Christopher, the one who has no understanding of human emotions, is the protagonist and also my favorite character.

Although he can’t recognize emotions, he sure can explain it well

The excerpt above is from the book where
Christopher describes “frustrating” emotion
In a quite different way

Like Christopher, I tried describing emotions abstractly

dd

Exhausting emotion
During 4th quarter of a tight basketball game, winning only by 1 point

It is like when you are swimming across the water and you really want to stop but you know if you stop, you’ll drawn

pleasing emotion
when drinking cold water after running a marathon in PE class

It is like fresh blood is entering your circulatory system and enable you to function again

Distracting emotion
When alarm clock is ringing to wake you up in early morning

It is like you are the Gulliver and midgets are shouting at you

Narcissistic Disorder

jaimiel09 on Apr 10th 2008

I changed the lyrics of the song Maroon 5’s ‘Wake Up Call’ to explain narcissistic disorder

Narcissistic Patient:

I’m sexy! I’m cute! I’m popular to boot!
I’m bitchin! Great hair! The boys all love to stare!
I’m wanted, I’m hot, I’m everything you’re not!
I’m pretty, I’m cool, I dominate the school!
Who am I? Just guess! I’m a narcissistic patient!
I’m narcissistic. I am narcissistic

Didn’t hear what you were saying

I live without emotion, baby

I answer questions never maybe

And I’m not kind if you disobey

So who the hell are you to save me

Never would’ve made it baby

Friend:

(Pre-Chorus)If you needed love

Well, then ask for love

Could’ve given love

Now I’m taking love

And it’s not my fault

‘Cause you sure deserve

What’s coming now

So don’t say a word

Narcissistic Patient:

(Chorus) WAKE UP CALL

Need to realize this

I’m the mighty girl

Don’t you know understand this? Is it hard?

Don’t you know about me?

I don’t think so!

I’m six-foot tall, got everything needed

Nothing there to add

People follow around me everyday

Telling I’m hot

I think so!

Doctor:

I’m here to treat you baby

There is no need to be pretentious

You are living in your own world

Now, I’m finally telling the truth

Your ego is screaming loudly

And falling down, soon it will hit the ground

Friend:

If you needed love

Well, then ask for love

Could’ve given love

Now I’m taking love

And it’s not my fault

‘Cause you both deserve

What’s coming now

So don’t say a word

Doctor:

(Chorus) WAKE UP CALL

reality check time

Loving yourself too much

Don’t you care about them anyhow?

Don’t you care about them?

I don’t think so!

Envious, arrogant and haughty

Stuck in fantasy

No one come around you anymore

Come around you?

I don’t think so

I don’t feel so bad

I don’t feel so bad

I don’t feel so bad

I don’t feel so bad

Narcissistic Patient:

I’m so sorry darlin’

Did I do the wrong thing

Oh, what was I thinkin’

Are their hearts still beating?

WAKE UP CALL

Thought I would say that?

I’m the mighty girl

Don’t you know understand this? Is it hard?

Don’t you know about me?

I don’t think so!

I’m six-foot tall, got everything needed

Nothing there to add

People follow around me everyday

Telling I’m hot

I think so!

kim won jong

jaimiel09 on Apr 10th 2008

?

Kim Won Jong

Insane man speaking out loudly for his opinion is better than a genius hiding behind a computer screen. Many people notice flaws of the society, but few of them stand up to fix those. Kim Won Jong, a 26 year old rapper, is running to become a Kang-Nam congressman. He is inexperienced, informal and nonconforming but very passionate. His stand as a candidate is a hotly debating issue among different age groups. Although it is pretty sure that he will not win the election, his fervent desire to make a change should be remembered.

Kim Won Jong is a passionate youth with a hiphop soul.

His campaigning style is totally out of the box. He raps around people a song which he wrote to criticize current politicians. Once, he got arrested for having guerrilla concert in front of the Korea National Assembly building (the Korea Capitol). Instead of boring portrait pictures for campaign poster, Kim Won Jong’s campaign posters are like posters of a comedy movie. Also he has a cyworld homepage (facebook type of cite) to contact and communicate with people even closer. Besides, when he campaigns on streets, he puts box of eggs for people to throw at him if they disagree with him in anyways. Some might say his campaigning style is immature like those of high school student council election. However, he should be applauded for his bravery and innovation.

“Do I know ya’ll motha’ fuckaz?”

It is what’s written on his profile section of the cyworld homepage. He surely uses swearword a lot and not a perfect role model. However he has some meaningful campaign pledges. Probably he wrote the line on his profile towards those who criticize him without trying to know him at first. His thoughtful campaign pledges make it hard to disparage him.

There are five major campaign pledges that Kim Won Jong had made. Strengthening the manifesto policy is one of the pledges. The policy is to strongly urge candidates to hold specific and realistic campaign pledges. It would provide strategic direction and outlines of prospective legislation for voters to make wise choice. In recent congressmen election, candidates rather criticized prior politics than to make pledges for a change. This caused ignorance among voters and led to the lowest turnout of voters in Korean history on May 31st 2006. The Manifesto policy would increase public’s interest of voting since their votes could make significant change in legislation. Another campaing pledge of Kim Won Jong is to limit expenses for an election campaign. His belief is that the money for election campaigns is wasteful. All of his pledges reflect his hopefulness and passionate mind to make a difference.

Other than running for a political position, he has made many previous accomplishments. Although he dropped out from college in his young age, he was able to become the head of a consulting company department. Also his main occupation is a rapper, and his songs have are widely known for critical lyrics. He has a successful business experience as well. His business company was a big issue in 2004 for selling parts of the moon. His past career experiences are quite remarkable as a young man to achieve.

I read a news about Kim Won Jong and listened to his music just for my curiosity. Then I realized myself singing along with the song and already have lyrics stuck on my head. His message was strong enough to pull my attention. On his website, he wrote “I hope I would be the black comedian in Korea’s political history. Please participate in the election but don’t vote for me” All of his efforts are to express his desirous voice, wanting for a change, to be heard to the public.
